These trailhead kiosks are set in concrete pads enabling greater access to park and trail information. The associated bicycle repair stations can double as wheelchair repair stations.

Baseball

Enjoy a game of baseball or softball at one of our fields located at West Branch or Winter Cove picnic areas. Ballfields are first come, first served.

Basketball

Enjoy a game of basketball at West Branch or North Dale picnic area, Baypoint Beach or Eastwood Beach.

Volleyball

Sand volleyball courts are located throughout the park at West Branch picnic area, Lakeview picnic area, and Baypoint Beach.

Canoeing & Kayaking

Spend the day on Stony Creek Lake! Launch your vessel from the Boat Launch area or rent one for a day of fun.

Kayaks and paddle boards are available to rent near Eastwood Beach at the Paddleshack.

Kayaks, rowboats, paddleboats and character pedal boats are available for rent at the Mount Vernon picnic area.

Off-Leash Dog Area

This is the first off-leash dog area within the Metroparks. Located in the Oakgrove Picnic Area, owners and furry visitors will enjoy a concrete bullpen with water bottle/pet filling station, benches, and dog waste stations. Within the dog areas, accessible aggregate gravel surfaces are used in each high traffic area and to create 6-foot wide paths extending into the off-leash areas. An accessible unisex portable toilet is also available.

Remember, dogs must be on a leash when entering and exiting the off leash dog area.

Please note, on Monday’s the Off Leash Dog Area will be closed for maintenance until 11 a.m. through November 1.

Ski Center & Rentals

Cross-country ski equipment rentals are available at the Ski Center, located at the Golf Course Starter Building. Never cross-country skied before? That’s ok! Here are some things to know before you go and some tips to get you started on your own adventure. Click here to watch video.

Enjoy a summer day in the water atBaypointBeach or Eastwood Beach at Stony CreekMetropark.

At Eastwood Beach there is an All-Terrain Beach Wheelchair (on land) and a Floating Beach Wheelchair (in water) available to rent for free. Click here to learn more about the wheelchairs and make an online reservation.

Terms Of Rental

  • A valid drivers license or State issued picture ID is required to rent a boat (school ID’s are not acceptable).
  • Motor horsepower, number of persons and weight shown on the Waterways Capacity Tag may not be exceeded.
  • Personal flotation devices (life jackets) must be worn by every boat passenger.
  • No swimming or diving off boat.
  • No alcoholic beverages allowed on rental boats/paddleboards.
  • No reservations are taken. Boats are rented on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Weekends are often very busy and waiting lists are used as needed.
  • Character pedal boats will not be rented if the wind speed is 10 mph or greater.

Group Rentals

All school and camp groups wishing to rent boats must make prior arrangements with Stony CreekMetroparkand have aMetroparkrelease and waiver from liability completed in advance by the parent or guardian of each child. There must also be an appropriate adult-to-child ratio. Please call the Stony CreekMetroparkoffice to make arrangements.

Outboard Motors

You may bring your own outboard motor. The Metroparks do not rent them. Maximum 6-horsepower motor allowed on a 12’ rowboat. Maximum 10-horsepower motor allowed on a 14’ rowboat.

Paddleshack

Located near Eastwood Beach, the Paddleshack has stand up paddleboards, single and double kayaks available for rent.

Participants must be 18 years or older to rent a SUP, and must provide a valid driver’s license or State issued picture ID (school ID’s are not acceptable). Life vests are provided for each user. No reservations are taken as SUPS are rented on a first come first served basis. Cash and credit card is accepted.

Boating

Bring out your boat and reward yourself with the panoramic vistas of Stony Creek Lake.

Safe operation and a 10-mph speed limit are enforced.

A valid Metroparks daily or annual boat pass, in addition to your vehicle pass, is required. If your boat (canoe, kayak or rowboat) is transported into the park inside or on top of your vehicle, you do not have to purchase a Boat Pass. Annual Boat Passes can be purchased at any Metropark toll booth or online.Click here to purchase your pass online.

American Sailing Institute

We have a partnership with American Sailing Institute who work to provide an enjoyable, safe, hands-on educational environment while teaching the tradition of sailing. Biking

Stony CreekMetroparkoffers a 6.2mile paved Hike-Bike Trail that circles Stony Creek Lake. It’s perfect for biking the day away.

For a longer ride, the Macomb Orchard Trail is accessible at the South end of the park near the park office via a connecting trail. This hikeandbike path is a 24-mile linear park that begins at 24 Mile Road andDequindrein Shelby Township and travels northeast to the City of Richmond. This trail will eventually link to 180 miles of trails in Southeast Michigan.

Mountain Biking

Put your mountain biking skills to the test right here at Stony Creek Metropark. Our trails are regarded as some of the best in Southeast Michigan and features more than 14 miles of heavily wooded dirt single track and two track trails.

Shelden Trails

Trolley Trails
For even more mountain biking thrills, wind your way through 3 miles of dirt single track trails from the Trolley Trails parking area. These trails wind through wooded areas and over hills. Riders won’t experience any technical features or obstacles on these trails, so it’s a great spot for beginner and intermediate riders.

Fat Tire Biking

Fat Tire Mountain Biking is allowed on the Trolley Trails and the Shelden Trails single-track trails each winter. These trails are not groomed. Fat Tire Mountain Biking is not allowed on the groomed double-track trails.

The trails have been color coded for difficulty levels.

Cross-Country Skiing

Escape the winter blues by walking, snowshoeing or cross-country skiing at Stony CreekMetropark. Enjoy great cardiovascular exercise as you glide across 13 miles of marked and groomed traditional cross-country ski trails, covering level to hilly terrain. Coast over snow-glazed trails on the golf course or mountain bike routes. There is no hiking or snowshoeing allowed on cross-country ski trails.

Snowshoeing is available throughout the park, except on the cross-country ski trails. Snowshoe rental is not available.

No fat tire bikes allowed on cross-country ski trails.

Camping

Ridgewood Campground offers a secluded up-north experience right here. Our large rustic sites feature fire rings, restrooms on site, beautiful scenery and access to everything you love about Stony Creek Metropark. When you visit, be sure to explore the Stony CreekMetroparkNature Center, or maybe enjoy a round of golf or just relax under the stars.A camp store is available on-site for wood, ice and limited camp supplies.

  • Camping reservations are available every weekend from Memorial Day to mid-September.
  • Check-in time begins at 1 p.m. on Friday or 1 p.m. on Saturday.
  • If staying just Friday night, check-out is by 11 a.m. on Saturday.
  • If staying just Saturday night, check-out is by 6 p.m. on Sunday, with the exception of Memorial and Labor Day weekends where checkout is 11 a.m. due to Sunday night rentals availability.
  • Pre-registration is required along with a full non-refundable payment and standard vehicle pass.
  • Must be 18 years or older to reserve.
  • Each campsite is limited to one camping vehicle (e.g., motorhome, travel trailer, pop-up camper, truck camper) or two (2) tents.
  • Some sites allow generators, but they must be turned off during quiet hours, 10 p.m. – 7 a.m.
  • Once campers are unhooked & camp supplies are unloaded, motor vehicles must be parked in the parking lot next to the campground.

Disc Golf

Play one of the most challenging disc golf courses in Michigan at Stony Creek Metropark. The Buckhorn disc golf course offers two 18 hole courses of championship-level disc golf, complete with serene wetlands, tallgrass prairies, dense thickets and wooded fairways.

The first hole begins adjacent to theGladeviewPicnic Area.

Annual Bag Tags are available for purchase at the Stony Creek MetroparkOffice. Annual Bag Tags are also valid for the disc golf courses at Kensington, Hudson Mills, and Willow Metroparks.

Fishing

Teeming with bass, pike, walleye and panfish, Stony Creek Lake is a favorite among anglers. The state record crappie was caught here. In the spring, summer and fall, fish on a barrier-free fishing pier located on the west side of the boat launching area or get out onto the lake to cast your line.

Ice Fishing

In the winter, ice fishing is available at both sections of Stony Creek Lake below 28 Mile Road. Ice shanties must be marked on all four sides with names and addresses and must be registered at the Park Office if left overnight. Ice shanties must be removed before sundown the first Sunday in March and on a daily basis thereafter, or earlier if the ice becomes unsafe. Fishing from bridges is prohibited.

A valid Michigan Fishing License or Sportsperson’s License is required for all anglers age 17 and up.

Golf

This 6,928yard, par72 course gives an “up north” feel with separated, heavily wooded fairways. Water hazards add to the challengeof this beautiful course.

Food and beverages are available. Senior rates are available for guests age 55 and older. Junior rates are available for guests age 20 and younger. Tee times can be made up to 10 days in advance. An accessible golf cart is available for use at each golf course, please call 24 hours in advance to reserve.Stony Creek Metropark golf course is one of seven regulation Metroparkcourses in Southeast Michigan.

Hiking

Hike-Bike Trail

Enjoy a leisurely walk or run on 6.2-mile paved Hike-Bike Trail loop. The trail encircles Stony Creek Lake and provides view of nature, wildlife and park activities.

Nature Trails

The nature trails are comprised of areas of compact gravel, bare soil and mowed grasses. Many stretches of the trails have a marked increase in elevation with steep inclines and slopes. The trails cross over three wood bridges, and a wooden plank bridge with no side rails.

EAST LAKE TRAILS – 3.5 MILES
The East Lake Trails consist of four connected trails marked with directional arrows. They provide a less traveled, more rustic walk.

REFLECTION TRAIL – .5 MILE
This is a short picturesque trail that explores Stony Creek’s valley and reveals the underwater worlds of pond and stream.

LANDSCAPE TRAIL – 1 MILE
Featuring the natural forces that shaped the character of the area, this trail will lead you over an ancient glacial landscape.

HABITAT TRAIL – 2.5 MILES
Along this winding course you will see a panorama of forest edge, broad fields, dense woods and small wetlands.

Know before you go: Occasionally woodland trails may be blocked with debris such as fallen tree limbs. Nature trails are not cleared or salted in the winter and may be snow-covered, slippery or muddy. Pets, bicycles and running are not permitted on the nature trails.

Multi-Use Trails

Shelden Trails

Trolley Trails
You’ll find Trolley Trails located across from Eastwood Beach. These are a multi-use system of trails enjoyed by both mountain bikers and hikers. The Trolley Trails use a portion of the old interurban light rail system created in the early 1900’s to move people and goods to and from Detroit and the surrounding area. These trails wind through wooded areas, over hills and across small wood bridges and offer spectacular fall views.

Rustic Trails

Inwood Trails
If you are looking for something a bit more rustic, hike the Inwood Rustic Trails located in the northern section of the park. These are primitive trails for foot traffic only. Expect to encounter and traverse wet or muddy areas, moderate grades, side slopes, narrow boardwalks and minor obstacles. Pets are not permitted on Inwood Rustic Trails.

Fitness Trail

Run or walk along three different length trails, with exercise stations, located near Eastwood Beach. The course provides a balanced routine of physical activity, offering 0.75-mile, 1-mile, and 1.75 miles of trail.

Ice Skating

Grab your skates and hit the ice this winter. An ice-skating rink is located on Stony Creek Lake near the Boat Launch area, weather permitting. A warming room with a heated lobby and restrooms. Hockey is allowed in designated areas next to the large general skating rink. No skate rentals are available.

Nature Center

Explore the natural world through hands-on experiences at the Nature Center. Find seasonal exhibits, programming with live animals and more fun ways to learn all year long. The Nature Center also offers self-guided nature trails, Interpreter led programming and other unique educational opportunities, including guided hikes, opportunities to paddle a 34-foot Voyager canoe, animal encounters, nature investigations and more.

The Nature Center offers fields trips for school, scout or community groups. These programs are customizable on-site or at a location of your choice and designed to educate and inspire.

Stony CreekMetroparkprovides the perfect setting for your next picnic. Picnic with friends or family amidst rolling hills, tree-lined lawns and beautiful vistas of Stony Creek Lake.

Picnic Shelters

Reunions, graduations, anniversaries, birthdays and any other way your family gets together – make your event more eventful with the Metroparks! We have picnic shelters available at Stony Creek Metropark for all your event and gathering needs. They come in a wide range of sizes and locations within the park. Some are conveniently located near park amenities like beaches, playgrounds and sports fields to add even more fun to your event – while others are more secluded for a more intimate event.

Our locations allow you to bring your own food or catering, add bounce houses, music and so much more.

Save some money – we’re offering weekday rentals at half price. Prices are already reflected online in our online booking tool.

  • All groups, regardless of size, are encouraged to pre-register to use a picnic shelter. Groups of 50 or more, those bringing in special equipment or hosting a special event are required to make reservations in advance.
  • Any vehicle driving off-road must obtain an off-road permit from theMetroparkOffice on the day of the picnic.
  • Park entry fees are not included in the shelter reservation fee.

Water Slide

Head over to Eastwood Beach to fly down our 50-foot tall 230-foot longQuadzillaSlide. This massive four-lane inflatable water slide is a great way to bring a little extra thrill to your beach day. Riders must be at least 42 inches tall.
